From the outset, RMM played a pivotal role in shaping the Prestons North and Prestons Park developments by preparing a comprehensive landscape strategy and compiling necessary landscape evidence to facilitate the project's initiation.
The Prestons North and Prestons Park development is being executed by two separate developers. Ngāi Tahu is responsible for Prestons North, while CDL Ltd oversees Prestons Park. Both developers collaborate closely with RMM as the master plan takes form, ensuring a cohesive and integrated approach to the landscape design.
A standout feature of the development is the linear park, which serves as a central spine running through both Prestons North and Prestons Park. This park seamlessly integrates the stormwater management system, playgrounds, and open green spaces, creating a multifunctional and aesthetically pleasing corridor that enhances the overall development. The streetscape strategies are designed to support multimodal transportation, harmonizing vehicular, pedestrian, and cycling paths with the stormwater networks and natural habitats, promoting ecological balance and accessibility.
RMM was instrumental in crafting the master plan and design vision for the park, ensuring a thorough and cohesive approach from concept to execution. Their involvement extended into the detailed implementation phase, where they provided extensive contract documentation and supervised the day-to-day management of contractors and suppliers. This meticulous oversight ensured that multiple work streams progressed smoothly and were completed to the highest standards at various stages of the project.
The linear park and associated streetscape strategies not only enhance the visual appeal of the development but also promote sustainability and community well-being. By integrating natural stormwater systems and native flora, the park supports local biodiversity and creates a serene, functional space for residents. The playgrounds and open spaces encourage social interaction and outdoor activities, fostering a sense of community and improving the quality of life for all residents.

RMM’s involvement in the Prestons North development has been comprehensive and integral, from initial strategy and evidence gathering to detailed design and implementation. Following the earthquakes, the secluded yet connected location of Prestons North meant that the development became a popular place for affected families to move. Our work ensures that the landscape on which they live is not only beautiful and functional but also sustainable and harmonious with the natural environment. By creating a sense of place for the diverse range of people who live in this development, we hope to foster a strong community and make Prestons North a social, amiable, and enviable place to call home.
