RMM's landscape design vision for this stunning residence, nestled within the Tara Iti golf resort, aimed to preserve and enhance the natural, wild beauty of the existing sand dune landscape.
The design masterfully integrates the undulating dunes that envelop the site, creating a harmonious sense of 'living within the dunes.' This approach strengthens the connection between the residence and its unique coastal environment.
Situated south of the Mangawhai estuary and adjacent to the beachfront north of Te Arai Point, the property boasts commanding views of the surrounding golf course dunes. The distant sea vistas towards the Hen and Chicken Islands and Whangarei Heads add to the visual splendor, making the location truly exceptional.
Key design elements of the landscape include a sunken fire pit, a private spa deck, artfully placed sculptures, subtle amenity lighting, and a private golf green. A large, undulating lawn serves as a seamless transition between the built structures and the natural dunes, enhancing the overall cohesion of the design.
The plant selection was meticulously curated for its sculptural qualities, seasonal variety, and ecological benefits. Native plant species were chosen for their suitability to the coastal environment, resilience to sea breezes, and compatibility with sandy soils. This thoughtful selection ensures the landscape's durability and visual appeal throughout the year.
The preservation of the dune system, combined with extensive native planting, creates habitats for local invertebrates and native bird species, fostering biodiversity and ecological balance. This not only enhances the environmental value of the property but also reinforces the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape.

RMM's landscape design for the Tara Iti golf resort residence exemplifies the art of integrating built environments with natural landscapes. By preserving the wild, untamed dunes and carefully selecting native plants suited to coastal conditions, the design creates a harmonious living experience that enhances the connection between the house and its environment. Key features like a sunken fire pit, private spa deck, and undulating lawn offer functional and aesthetic benefits, while promoting biodiversity and ecological balance. This project showcases RMM's ability to blend architectural and natural elements seamlessly, resulting in a residence that is both stunning and environmentally conscious.
