The Bedford Terraces form a key part of the new townhouse development within One Central, located in Christchurch’s East Frame. This project exemplifies modern urban living by combining thoughtful architectural design with well-integrated landscaped spaces. RMM, a leading landscape architecture firm, provided comprehensive landscape design services for the Bedford Terraces, from the initial concept development to overseeing the on-site construction.
The design features two private courtyards that offer stunning views for the surrounding units. These courtyards are meticulously crafted to serve multiple purposes, including areas for seating, socializing, and play. The thoughtful arrangement of these spaces encourages a sense of community among residents while also providing private retreats.
A central public laneway is another vital component of the design, enhancing circulation within the development. This laneway not only connects the adjacent car park to the central units but also serves as a pleasant pedestrian pathway, fostering connectivity and ease of movement throughout the site.
The plant palette selected for the Bedford Terraces is primarily composed of native species that are well-suited to the regional context. This choice not only supports local biodiversity but also ensures the landscape is sustainable and low-maintenance. Additionally, the design incorporates food production opportunities, allowing residents to engage in urban gardening and enjoy the benefits of fresh, locally grown produce.
