Pacific Lakes Village: Innovative Design in a Coastal Setting
PLV
Mar 12, 2021
Pacific Lakes Village (PLV) is an ambitious 17.08-hectare development adjacent to Papamoa Beach, Tauranga, building on the success of the nearby Pacific Coast Village, which RMM has been involved with since 2015. Currently under construction, PLV will offer a diverse mix of 266 single-story detached and semi-detached villas, two-story townhouses, an apartment block, and an aged care facility.

Comprehensive Involvement and Design Expertise
RMM’s role in both Pacific Lakes Village and Pacific Coast Village encompasses landscape master planning, conceptual landscape design, developed design, detailed design, and contract supervision. These developments feature community recreation and leisure buildings, open park spaces, orchards, bowling greens, and petanque courts. The smart design of these open spaces ensures a high level of on-site amenity, balancing functional, robust, and safe environments for residents and clients alike.

Seamless Integration of Private and Communal Spaces
At PLV, the design of private courtyards and individual villa gardens creates a seamless link with varied community spaces, offering both active and passive recreational opportunities. A standout feature of this development is the integration of built landscape features within luxury gardens, enhancing the visual and physical connections between private and communal areas.

Environmental Sustainability and Innovative Features
Pacific Lakes Village embodies a strong environmental narrative, centering around a three-part lake designed to collect and treat stormwater on-site. This sustainable approach is complemented by communal composting sites, generating compost for greenhouses and private gardens. The village’s design thoughtfully integrates local context, using indigenous plant material and locally sourced concrete aggregate and stone boulders. Pohutukawa trees line the streets and the lake, while robust timbers and board-formed concrete reference Tauranga’s port, highlighting the city’s role as the export hub for the Bay of Plenty. Communal fruit tree orchards further reflect the region’s prosperity.

Drawing Inspiration from Local Context
RMM has drawn heavily on the unique context of the Papamoa Beach setting. The use of local plant materials and the sourcing of concrete aggregate and stone boulders locally ensures the development is grounded in its environment. The integration of bulky timbers and board-formed concrete pays homage to Tauranga’s maritime heritage and its significance as a key export hub in the Bay of Plenty.

Future Prospects
As Pacific Lakes Village progresses towards completion, RMM is proud to contribute to a project that not only offers high-quality living spaces but also integrates sustainable practices and community-focused design. This development is poised to set a new standard for retirement living, providing residents with a harmonious blend of private and communal spaces, enriched by the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the Papamoa Beach area.
