Project Update: Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Oneoneroa Development
Jun 05, 2020
Our Tāmaki Makaurau studio recently marked a significant milestone with the project inspection signalling the end of Practical Completion of Landscape Works for the Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Oneoneroa development in Belmont, on Auckland’s North Shore. This medium-density residential project represents a major step forward in urban development, blending thoughtful design with community-centric planning.
About the Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Oneoneroa Development
Situated on surplus Navy land, the Oneoneroa development comprises a 350-lot medium-density residential project. Named after the local bay it overlooks, Oneoneroa has been designed to create a vibrant, sustainable community. The project was approved in 2016 under the Special Housing Accord, aiming to address the growing demand for quality housing in Auckland.
RMM's Role and Journey
RMM has been a key player in this project since 2018. Our involvement began with the Concept Design for stages 1A to 1F and Stage 2A-1 to Stage 2A-3, to secure Resource Consent. Following this, we were engaged for the developed and detailed design for Stages 1A and 1B, encompassing a total of 13 units. Our commitment to excellence continued with comprehensive contract observation to ensure the project's adherence to the highest standards.
Collaborative Efforts
The success of the Oneoneroa project is a testament to the power of collaboration. RMM worked closely with Brewer Davidson Architects and Aurecon to bring this vision to life. This partnership has been instrumental in navigating the complexities of urban development, from initial design to the final stages of completion.
Sustainable and Community-Focused Design
Oneoneroa is more than just a residential development; it's a community designed with sustainability and livability at its core. The landscape design reflects our commitment to creating spaces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional and environmentally responsible. This approach aligns with our broader operational and design policies, which prioritize sustainable innovation and the stewardship of the land (kaitiakitanga).
Looking Ahead
As we celebrate the Practical Completion of Landscape Works, we remain dedicated to the ongoing success of the Oneoneroa development. Our team is excited to see the community grow and thrive in this beautifully designed environment. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with all stakeholders to ensure that Oneoneroa remains a model of sustainable urban development.
