RMM’s Auckland studio has been working with Kāinga Ora to create high quality and meaningful outdoor environments for social housing residents in Tāmaki Makaurau since 2019.
Māngere West A56-A58 is a cluster of adjacent sites that include a mix of walk-up apartments and standalone dwellings which share a range of common facilities including a community room and laundry, play spaces and raised vegetable potager gardens.
RMM’s designs tie together the sites’ proximity to the Manukau Harbour, the historic land use patterns and modification, and the creation of opportunities to come together and engage with the landscape.
Use of landform, changes of level and the incorporation of large format site furniture and play items in the common areas creates environments for all ages to congregate, play in, and interact with.
