The Annual Wānaka Studio Ski Day
Oct 03, 2020
While the Ōtautahi studio members were waking up at 4:30 am for their fishing trip to Kaikōura, the Wānaka team opted for a more leisurely start to their day. Their adventure began with a hearty, cooked breakfast at a local favourite spot, setting the tone for a day filled with fun and camaraderie. Energized and excited, they headed to Cardrona, affectionately known as 'Cardies,' for their highly anticipated annual ski day.
The conditions at Cardrona were perfect, with clear skies and fresh powder covering the slopes. The team took advantage of the great weather, enjoying numerous runs with little to no queues, allowing everyone to make the most of their time on the mountain. Gerard, in particular, put on an impressive display with his sub-2-minute runs, showcasing his skiing prowess and keeping Brooke on his toes as he tried to keep up.
As the day progressed, the snow began to fall more heavily, and visibility decreased. Recognizing the changing conditions, the team made an executive decision to retreat early to the iconic Cardrona Pub. This charming establishment, known for its cozy atmosphere, provided the perfect setting for some much-needed relaxation. They gathered around a roaring outdoor fire, enjoying warm drinks and sharing stories of their morning adventures.
With some time left in the day, Wendy suggested a spontaneous visit to Crossfire Wanaka. This unique recreational spot offered a range of activities, and the team eagerly took part in the driving range and claybird shooting.
As the day drew to a close, the team returned to Wendy's place, where they settled into a wonderful home-cooked meal. The evening was enhanced by a few well-deserved gins, and the group gathered around Wendy's cozy 'Hooga' fire for a lively debrief of the day's events.
The Wānaka team's ski day adventure was not just about skiing but also about strengthening bonds, creating memories, and enjoying the beauty of their surroundings. It was a day that perfectly encapsulated the spirit of RMM – blending work with play, and fostering a true sense of community and well-being.
