Sarah Copeland joined RMM Landscape Architects in February 2024, bringing a strong academic background and a fresh perspective to the team.

She recently completed her Master’s in Planning at Otago University, where she developed a keen interest in creating vibrant, functional, and ecologically sustainable spaces. Prior to her master's, Sarah earned a Bachelor of Science with majors in Geology and Geography, providing her with a solid foundation in understanding natural landscapes and environmental processes.

Sarah’s master’s dissertation focused on the innovative design and rearrangement of in-between spaces within residential master plan layouts. Her goal was to enhance community connection and biodiversity, an approach that reflects her deep commitment to sustainable and inclusive urban planning. She draws significant inspiration from the renowned Danish architect Jan Gehl, whose work in designing dynamic public spaces has greatly influenced her philosophy and passion for landscape architecture.

At RMM, Sarah is excited to apply her knowledge and skills to a variety of projects. She is particularly interested in exploring how thoughtful design can foster stronger communities and promote environmental stewardship. Her ability to integrate scientific understanding with creative design solutions makes her a valuable addition to the team.

Sarah is known for her meticulous attention to detail and her collaborative approach. She thrives in multi-disciplinary environments, where she can work alongside other professionals to achieve common goals. Her expertise in geology and geography allows her to consider the broader environmental context in her planning efforts, ensuring that her designs are both sustainable and resilient.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Sarah leads an active and adventurous lifestyle. She enjoys climbing, diving, and practicing yoga, activities that keep her connected to the natural world and provide her with inspiration for her work. Her passion for the outdoors and her commitment to promoting well-being through landscape design are evident in all aspects of her life.

Sarah’s academic achievements, combined with her practical experience and passion for sustainable design, make her an excellent fit for RMM.
