Russell Cooper joined RMM Landscape Architects' Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland studio in June 2021, bringing with him over five years of experience from a multidisciplinary consulting firm.
His passion for New Zealand landscapes, coupled with his innovative approach to design and construction, has made him a valuable asset to the team. Russell is dedicated to leveraging technology and new solutions to enhance efficiencies and processes in landscape architecture.
Russell’s diverse background includes leading and supporting roles across the entire project lifecycle, from inception and masterplanning to feasibility, design, delivery, and construction. His portfolio spans a wide range of areas, including parks and open spaces, play spaces, motorways and roading infrastructure, retail malls, residential developments, streetscapes, and major rail infrastructure. His comprehensive skill set is further enriched by hands-on experience in landscape construction, the design and build of nature-play playgrounds, and practical horticultural and amenity gardening.
At RMM, Russell is known for his strategic thinking and ability to integrate cutting-edge technology into his projects. He excels in creating innovative designs that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing, always with a focus on sustainability and environmental stewardship. His work reflects a deep understanding of the unique characteristics of New Zealand’s landscapes and a commitment to enhancing the natural environment.
Outside of his professional pursuits, Russell enjoys exploring the outdoors and engaging in various recreational activities. He often takes road trips to the north, where he indulges in camping and fishing. He is also a fan of live music and enjoys the challenge of DIY projects, which allow him to apply his creative skills in new and exciting ways.
