Aachna Aachal Dewan joined RMM Landscape Architects in June 2022, bringing a fresh perspective and a strong academic background in landscape architecture.
She recently completed her Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) at Unitec, building on her Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA). Aachna's academic journey has been marked by a deep engagement with the pressing issues of climate change and natural hazards.
During her studies, Aachna focused on landscapes threatened by the effects of climate change. Her final BLA and MLA projects delved into the impacts of natural hazards on both the environment and the community. These projects highlight her commitment to understanding and mitigating the risks associated with environmental changes, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing and protecting natural landscapes before development.
Aachna's work is characterized by a community-centric approach. She has proactively engaged with local communities to understand their needs and aspirations, integrating these insights into her projects. This approach not only ensures that the developments are sustainable but also fosters a deep connection between the community and the land (whenua). Her dedication to community-led projects demonstrates her belief in the importance of involving local stakeholders in the planning and development process.
At RMM, Aachna is excited to continue her learning journey and gain practical experience. She looks forward to applying her academic knowledge to real-world projects and contributing to the firm's mission of creating sustainable, resilient landscapes.
Outside of her professional pursuits, Aachna has a passion for photography, capturing the beauty of landscapes and moments during her travels across Aotearoa. She also enjoys spending time on her family farm in Fiji, where she reconnects with nature and her roots. In addition to her love for the outdoors, Aachna is an avid artist, constantly challenging herself to learn new skills and explore different forms of creative expression.
